Supporting the inclusion of families and children from Refugee Backgrounds
This video showcases powerful, firsthand messages from families from refugee backgrounds with young children, sharing what makes them feel truly included and valued as parents accessing early years services and school. What makes this project unique is the active involvement of the families every step of the way — from consultation and planning to filming — ensuring their voices authentically shine through.
The families featured in the video were part of a Community Advisory Group facilitated by the Early Years Team at Foundation House. Their insights and experiences directly shaped the content and messages shared in the video.
Featuring children of all ages, from babies to early school years in the video is a deliberate decision of the group to emphasise that the messages are relevant to all early years professionals including maternal child health, playgroups, early learning services and schools. The participants of the advisory group seek to inspire and support professionals in creating environments that empower families to effectively support their children’s learning, development and well being.
It’s a compelling showcase of community strength, resilience, and the vital importance of fostering welcoming, inclusive spaces where every family feels they belong.
The production of this video was supported by funding from the Department of Education Victoria.
